Born and raised in Boston, Dr. Pettway’s early life was marked by hardship and trauma. She faced childhood adversity, substance use disorder, and incarceration—experiences that could have permanently defined her future. Instead of allowing her circumstances to defeat her, she chose transformation.
Her decision to rebuild her life from the ground up became the foundation of her mission to inspire and empower others facing similar struggles. What once appeared to be a painful and broken chapter evolved into a story of healing, restoration, and hope.
Today, Dr. Pettway serves as Deputy Director for Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS), where she oversees programs focused on behavioral health, workforce development, violence prevention, housing stabilization, trauma recovery, and community wellness throughout the Bay Area.
Her leadership directly impacts underserved and vulnerable communities by creating pathways toward self-sufficiency, healing, and long-term success. In addition to her executive leadership role, Dr. Pettway is the founder of the Building Bridges Foundation and PettwayCoaching.com. Through coaching, consulting, speaking engagements, and curriculum development, she helps individuals and organizations transform adversity into opportunity.

Dr. Pettway’s academic and professional achievements reflect her commitment to service and excellence. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and a Clinical Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies.
