Danielle M. Key: Attorney, Author and Advocate for Intentional Relationships

For more than two decades, New Jersey attorney, author, and speaker Danielle M. Key, Esq. has helped individuals and families navigate some of life’s most difficult transitions. Her extensive legal career, particularly in family law, has given her a firsthand understanding of the challenges that can shape relationships and families.

A graduate of Rutgers Law School–Camden, Danielle spent 11 years with Legal Services before entering private practice. Her professional experience has included divorce, custody disputes, domestic violence matters, and other family-related conflicts.

Through these experiences, Danielle began recognizing patterns that often appeared long before a couple entered a courtroom. Many relationship difficulties, she observed, can begin with unresolved expectations, communication challenges, compatibility issues, or warning signs that were overlooked before marriage.

From Legal Experience to Authorship

These observations inspired Danielle to write her book, Too Quick to Marry, Too Quick to Divorce: Lessons from a Divorce Lawyer.

Publishing the book is one of Danielle’s biggest professional achievements. Drawing from lessons learned throughout her legal career, she encourages readers to think more intentionally about marriage and the decisions that lead to it.

Rather than focusing only on romance and chemistry, Danielle explores the importance of compatibility, communication, expectations, commitment, and recognizing potential red flags.

Her message is not against marriage or divorce. Instead, she encourages people to understand that choosing a life partner is one of the most consequential decisions they may make.

A Focus on Family Law

After her years with Legal Services, Danielle entered private practice, where her work focused primarily on family law. Her experience includes representing clients involved in divorce, custody disputes, domestic violence matters, and other family conflicts.

Working closely with families during emotionally difficult moments gave Danielle an opportunity to observe patterns that often develop long before a legal dispute reaches an attorney’s office.

For her, family law became more than an area of legal practice. It became a lens through which she could better understand relationships, decision-making, communication, and the expectations people bring into marriage.

Lessons Learned From Divorce Cases

One of the most significant observations Danielle developed throughout her career was that many marital problems do not begin with the divorce itself. In numerous situations, the underlying challenges existed long before a couple sought legal assistance.

Her experiences representing clients led her to consider an important question: Could some relationship difficulties be recognized or addressed earlier, before they become serious enough to threaten a marriage?

Today, Danielle serves as Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Camden, adding another dimension to her legal career and public service work.

Her professional experience has allowed her to see the law not simply as a system of rules, but as something closely connected to people’s lives, families, relationships, and major personal decisions.

Founder of The Legal Assistance Center

Alongside her legal work, Danielle is the founder of The Legal Assistance Center, an initiative that reflects her continued commitment to providing legal assistance and support.

Through the center, she is working to build on the service-oriented values that have been part of her career from the beginning.

Growing The Legal Assistance Center remains an important part of Danielle’s current professional vision as she continues developing her work and finding ways to serve others through her legal knowledge and experience.

She plans to continue publishing both nonfiction and fiction books, allowing her to explore different subjects and creative perspectives.
